Congratulations! You have successfully found the the ALPHA VERSION 3.1.2D of XFree86/OS2. This file is a condensed version of the file README.OS2 to be found in somewhere else here. The purpose of this file is to give you a SHOPPING LIST of things you should obtain. The whole distribution in this directory is about 50 MB archived, but you by far won't need everything. The following list describes what the files contain and what you must have (marked REQUIRED) and what you might get as well (marked OPTIONAL). Save net bandwidth and your money and do not overload the FTP servers with things you hardly ever need - don't do an uncritical MGET. Before ANYTHING ELSE, get the following files: 312DBASE.ZIP (REQUIRED) EMXRT.ZIP (REQUIRED, not needed if you have emx0.9b already) The 312DBASE file contains a test program for your video card. If this fails or reports a non-supported video card, you do not need the other files at all, because XFree86/OS2 won't run (even if OS/2 would support the video card). If this test was okay, select among the following archives: 312DDOC.ZIP (REQUIRED) READMEs and XFree86 specific man pages. 312DBIN.ZIP (REQUIRED) all of the executable X client applications and shared libs 312DFNTS.ZIP (REQUIRED) the misc and 75dpi fonts You must choose at least ONE of the following to match your hardware: Note every server comes in two flavors: the full-featured server containing PEX, XI, XIE support, and a smaller server without these special support. The full-featured servers are called '312D*.ZIP', the small servers are 'S12D*.ZIP'. By the time of this document only full servers may be available, unfortunately. 312D8514.ZIP, S12D8514.ZIP (*) the X server for IBM 8514/A and compatible boards 312DAGX.ZIP, S12DAGX.ZIP (*) the X server for AGX boards 312DI128.ZIP, S12DI128.ZIP (*) the X server for #9 Imagination 128 boards 312DMA32.ZIP, S12DMA32.ZIP (*) the X server for ATI Mach32 graphics boards 312DMA64.ZIP, S12DMA64.ZIP (*) the X server for ATI Mach64 graphics boards 312DMA8.ZIP, S12DMA8.ZIP (*) the X server for ATI Mach8 graphics boards 312DMONO.ZIP, S12DMONO.ZIP (*) the Monochrome X Server 312DP9K.ZIP, S12DP9K.ZIP (*) the X server for P9000 based boards 312DS3.ZIP, S12DS3.ZIP (*) the X server for S3 based boards 312DSVGA.ZIP, S12DSVGA.ZIP (*) the 8-bit pseudo-color X server for Super VGA cards 312DVG16.ZIP, S12DVG16.ZIP (*) the 4-bit pseudo-color X server for VGA & SVGA cards. 312DW32.ZIP, S12DW32.ZIP (*) the X server for et4000w32 based boards The following optional packages are there: 312DMAN.ZIP (OPTIONAL) pre-formatted man pages for the X11 interface and clients 312DF100.ZIP (OPTIONAL) 100dpi fonts 312DFSCL.ZIP (OPTIONAL) Speedo and Type1 fonts 312DFNON.ZIP (OPTIONAL) Japanese, Chinese and other fonts 312DFCYR.ZIP (OPTIONAL) Cyrillic fonts 312DPROG.ZIP (OPTIONAL) the X11 header files and programmer's utilities for compiling other X applications 312DPEX.ZIP (OPTIONAL) PEX fonts and libraries required for PEX applications Read the README.OS2 file which comes with the base package how to install the stuff.
